The first release of 900 Pure Malt from new Australian distillery Chief's Son.

Based out of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, the Pure Malt is distilled from a specific malt make-up. With a higher proportion of peated malt than a standard, and a bespoke distilling technique, this pure malt showcases crisp malt but also deeper caramel, toffee and stewed, baked fruits.

Matured exclusively in ex-fortified French oak barrels.

Release 1 of the Pure Malt is dubbed ‘Barrel 90’. There are just 128 bottles in the release.

Chief’s Son’s Stuart and Naomi McIntosh have been distilling since 2012 in the Mornington Peninsula, starting from essentially an R&D hobby-sized still to one of the country’s biggest (at 4,000 litres). They use Australian barley and predominately mature in American oak ex-apera (Australian sherry) casks.

Many of their releases carry the “900” moniker, which references 900 years since the formal establishment of the McIntosh family. The Scottish Gaelic translation of the name means Son of the Chief, which is where the distillery takes its name from, also.
