"This wine is made from 100 % Shiraz from Fruit for the
Old Pokolbin Vineyard Shiraz is from the Maluna
Vineyard, planted in 1968 by the Maxwell family. At an
elevation of 250 metres, it faces north-∏east on dark
brown clay loam soils mixed with limestone and sea
fossils.
Low yielding, at around 1.5 tonnes per acre, this vineyard
makes a Shiraz that is generous, complex and elegant.
After fermentation & pressing, the wine matures in 300 &
500 litre French oak barrels for 16 months, mostly older
with 35 % new to provide a pronounced but subtle back
bone.
There is fantastic colour with a rich, bright density.
The nose has a pronounced fragrance of red fruits, ripe
strawberry/raspberry, with a hint of spice to round it out.
All of these aroma profiles follow through with a fruit
burst on the palate. It is elegant and generous, with
supple tannins to support the fruit and spice, with a
fleshy finish."
