Although the original Jura distillery was founded in the early 1800s, the rebuilt distillery we have now is a classic 1960s distillery, one of many that emerged in that boom period.  A light smoky nature can be found in this whisky, accompanied by tastes like applewood and vanilla. This develops into meaty notes on the finish. Manzanilla Sherry Cask, 46% abv.

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Tropical juice, vanilla cake, hickory wood chunks.

Palate: Burnt marshmallow, applewood, vanilla pods.

Finish: Beefy notes, salt beef, juicy prunes, mango, fruity chewing gum. Nice texture on the finish, slightly oily.

Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, having being founded in 1842 as William Cadenhead Limited Wine & Spirit Merchants. It was family owned until it was bought by another family company J&A Mitchell & Co, owners of the Springbank and Glengyle distilleries.

Whyte & Mackay-owned Jura was first built in 1810 on the island that shares its name. A chequered history of closures, dismantles and rebuilds has led to a hugely popular distillery, particularly in the UK. A cult loved distillery, they tend to be reasonably weighty whiskies with gentle smoke. We think it shines brightest currently in the hands of independent bottlers.
