Vietti Barolo 2017's - 'Polished, vivid, and flat out delicious'

One of the icons of Piedmont, Vietti stands among the very best producers in the region today, From their benchmark expressions of Arneis, Barbera, and Dolcetto to their revered Cru Barolo and Barbaresco - everything is crafted to incredible standards.

Based in Castiglione Falletto, Carlo Vietti founded the original cellars in the late 1800's. Now with over 4 generations of winemaking history, it was Luciana Vietti and Alfredo Currado's marriage that proved the turning point in Vietti's history, including the first Barolo Cru produced in 1961 (Rocche di Castiglione) and the creation of the 'Artist Labels'

If anyone is up to the task of backing up such a sensational vintage as 2016, it is Luca Currado and the Vietti estate.

The 2017 is proving to be surprisingly fresh and elegant vintage with the combination of cooler nights during the warm vintage and an optimal growing season producing excellent tannins and ripe, floral bouquets. 2017 has yielded wines of great promise, with growers building on their experience of warmer years.

Antonio Galloni of Vinous says “There is plenty to like about the 2017 Barolos... The best 2017s are exceptionally polished, vivid and flat-out delicious.'

' I can’t think of too many estates in Piedmont that have raised the bar higher than Vietti has over the last decade or so. Virtually every wine that emerges from these cellars is outstanding, and many are profound. Winemaker Luca Currado, his brother-in-law Mario Cordero and their staff have taken the early groundbreaking work of Alfredo and Lucia Currado and built upon those successes, reaching an unprecedented level of consistency and quality across their entire range'.-Antonio Galloni

Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2017

'The 2017 Barolo Castiglione is a wild, exotic wine. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, tobacco, new leather and rose petal all flesh out in this ample, voluptuous Barolo from Vietti. The 2017 is a wine of significant heft hidden behind a wall of tannin. Give it a few years to soften or open it well in advance. Time brings out striking translucence as well as finesse.' - 92 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2017

'Vietti's 2017 Barolo Lazzarito is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever the challenges of the growing season, they appear to have been no problem here. More than anything else, the Lazzarito impresses with its magnificent depth and stature. Super-ripe red fruit, white pepper, mint, tobacco, cured meat, spice and rose petal open gradually with time in the glass. I would not be in a rush to open bottles anytime soon. The Lazzarito has been one of the most improved wines at Vietti for a number of years. The 2017 is so captivating.' - 95 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Vietti Barolo Ravera 2017

'The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a powerhouse. My impression is that the 2017 is going to develop into something truly special. It has all the energy that makes this site so distinctive, but with an extra kick of fruit density and a whole range of exotic aromatics that make for a truly drop dead gorgeous wine. Bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, chalk and white pepper build into a finish laced with searing intensity. This is such and impressive wine.' - 95 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2017

Ruby-red colour, with light garnet hues. Rich, powerful concentrated nose with hints of ripe fruit. Fresh and bodied on the palate. Notes of red and black fruits (strawberry, blueberry and blackberry). Well-integrated ripe soft and silky tannins. Particular almond note on the finish. It shows an overall incredible finesse and excellent balance.

Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco 2018

Medium deep ruby color. Quite intense and generous fruity nose (red berries) along with floral and spicy notes, a hint of menthol and hard candy. On the pallet medium bodied, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Strong, intense and quite powerful when young, evolving to a complex and elegant, very well balanced wine with ageing. The tannins are harmoniously integrated in the fruit structure of the wine. Long lasting aftertaste with good freshness.
