Imperial Stouts

Citizens,

Being the middle of winter there is no better time to talk about the great Imperial Stouts just arrived from the EEC. There are plenty of variations on the IS in the brews below

Brief History

Imperial stout, also known as "Russian Imperial stout", is a strong dark beer in the style that was brewed in the 18th century by Thrale's Anchor Brewery in London for export to the court of Catherine II of Russia. It was shipped to Russia by Albert von Le Coq who was awarded a Russian royal warrant which entitled him to use the name "Imperial"

Imperial stouts have a high alcohol content, usually over 9% abv, and are among the darkest available beer styles

NB: Sydney Craft Beer & Cider Fair will not be held this year for obvious reasons, looking forward to next year

LA DEBAUCHE DEMI MONDAINE IMPERIAL STOUT

As usual, any offering by our French brewery La Debauche is notable for the striking label art, often full of subtle cultural reference or double entendre.

It is an imperial milk stout, with the addition of coffee beans, cocoa beans and lactose.

Its label was produced by Cécile Vallade, a designer whose universe is inspired by brothels of the 1920s.
