Gut Oggau Maskerade Release!

Gut Oggau Maskerade Release!

Posted by Joe Perry on 21st Nov 2019

The long awaited Maskerade wines of 2018 from Gut Oggau have arrived.

The Maskerade wines from Gut Oggau hail from newer vineyards that Stephanie and Eduard are currently in the process of converting to biodynamics. It's a chance for Gut Oggau to showcase varietals that are in the stage of learning biodynamic farming. In Eduard and Stephanie's words, the wines are hiding, refusing to show their true selves yet. They haven't truly become a part of the family.

The 2 wines capture an ephemeral snapshot of Gut Oggau, taking the consumer along on the journey of these incredible wines.

Eduard and Stephanie currently farm 13 hectares of vines for Gut Oggau, located close to Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland. Eduards father was a winemaker in Styria, crafted a distinctly different style from the wines we see of Gut Oggau, and Stephanie's father owns the prestigious Taubenkobel restaurant which currently holds 2 Michelin stars. It's apparent that both elements of the couple have been deeply involved with wine and cuisine from a young age.

After acquiring a vineyard in 2007, which had been abandoned for 20 years meaning that all harmful chemicals that had once been used had been washed away, Eduard and Stephanie were able to immediately start farming the vines biodynamically.

They noticed that each parcel of fruit from the property showcases unique, alive personalities for each wine, and decided to bottles these sites individually, putting a face to the name for each wine.

We're extremely excited to receive an allocation of the Maskerade wines from Gut Oggau. As both are incredibly expressive, hinting to the brilliance of Eduard and Stephanie and the great wines that will hail from these vineyards.
