Domaine Denis Mortet 2017 Pre Arrival Offer

Quite simply, Denis Mortet was one of Burgundy’s greatest. Founding Domaine Denis Mortet in the early 1990’s, his wines quickly rose to fame after a string of incredible vintages to be considered alongside some of the great Burgundian domaines such as Rousseau, Jayer, Leroy, Romanee-Conti.

His approach in the vineyard was everything, every step was done by hand to ensure the finest fruit was produced. Each vine was tended to as if it were a grand cru vineyard and all the reds saw 100% new oak. This earnt him the utmost respect of his Burgundian peers, and wine enthusiast everywhere.

Denis Mortet’s wines were often polarising for Burgundy drinkers - bold, intense, and hedonistic, not the soft, delicate, floral wines often sought after in the Cote d’Or. Even so the wines quickly became incredibly rare, selling out within hours of the wines being released.

Despite his wines being richer and more opulent, Denis was constantly driving for more finesse, style, and minerality in his wines while not sacrificing intensity and potential longevity. Unfortunately Denis passed in 2006 and his son Arnaud Mortet stepped in to continue his legacy, along with the watchful eyes of his mother and sister.

Arnaud is continuing on his fathers legacy, producing more refined wines without sacrificing intensity or depth. He has backed off the amount of extraction and is using shorter more gentle macerations whilst keeping power from these magnificent vineyards. Much like his father Arnaud is a true perfectionist in the vineyard and winery. Under Arnaud the wines of Domaine Denis Mortet have risen to a new level, cementing the domaine’s position as one of the greats of the Cote de Nuits. 2017 will go down in history as one of the best years for the Domaine so far.
