The first "peated" release from Starward, originally released in 2021. This release featured Starward's characteristic red wine cask single malt whisky matured for a modest duration in heavily used Islay whisky barrels from a secret distillery*.
Compared to later releases, the unexpeated pops with a much brighter set of flavours, capturing a whispy, estery peatiness, without as much of the earthier sensations longer maturations resulted in. This resulted in this release being a strong fan favourite at our most recent Starward tasting!
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: ropical fruits, toasted oak and a hint of sweet peat.
Palate: Ripe red berries, coastal peat smoke, yellow peach and cocoa nibs.
Finish: Oak slowly dries the palate, with a long peated finish.
*Some say the Islay distillery starts with L, and rhymes with "dueling"
