An aromatic, rich and peaty bottling from Glenturret's other half, Ruadh Mhor. North Star aged this spirit for 7 years, with some time spent finishing in ex-PX barrels for a rich finish. Aged 7 years, 1 of 150 bottles. Bottled at 53.7% abv.

Nose: Fumes from a well-maintained 1974 Leyland Sherpa.

Palate: Punchy, salty barbecue stacked with cajun pork chips

Finish: A waft of dirty ashtrays filled with cuban cigars

North Star have quickly become one of The Oak Barrel's favourite independent bottlers. Exceptional cask selections at very reasonable prices, they are exciting, fun whiskies - even when they're very serious - which are designed to be drunk and shared. Winner of Scottish Whisky Awards' Best Independent Bottler of the Year the last two years running.

One of Scotland's smallest and oldest distilleries, it was founded in 1775 and has a claim to be one of the country's oldest working distilleries. Once the home of the Famous Grouse blend, the distillery has begun to emerge as a single malt concern. Long fermentation (120 hours) and a wash still stirred by hand (one of the few in Scotland to do this) Glenturret whiskies are full-bodied but malt-forward, certainly an 'old school' style. While home to the 'Famous Grouse Experience' the distillery began small runs of heavily peated spirit, called Ruadh Maor, to create the Black Grouse.
