Lochlea are not only a new addition to our shelves, but are one of the newest Scottish distilleries around. Founded in 2018 in Ayrshire (in the Lowlands region), and with an inaugural release in 2022, their spirit has become well respected amongst the wave of newer Scottish producers.

The 'Our Barley' Release is the core of Lochlea, focussing on presenting their spirit, style and terroir through a vatting of Bourbon, Oloroso & STR Rioja Casks, in a style that those familiar with younger Scottish malts may recognise.  Taking out a Gold in their first entry to the San Francisco Spirits Competition, and blowing us away with how clean their spirit drinks, we are excited to follow this wonderful new distillery, and see how they evolve over time...

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Pear syrup, fruit bon bons, warm cut grass, marmalade.

Palate: Golden syrup, pepper, rye bread, macadamia nuts, cream soda.

Finish: Long finish with a lasting orange beeswax note

Our Thoughts...

"Orchard fruits and Allen's party mix work wonderfully with the soft grain flavours, and gentle waxy texture of the spirit. Incredibly easy drinking, yet with plenty to think about..."

The Lochlea distillery was founded in 2018 in Ayrshire, Scotland, making this distillery the newest to open in the Lowlands region. With a strong launch in 2022, and an identity driven by sustainability, and locally grown barley, they have managed to bring weight to their new-style concepts with incredible clean spirit and an impressive cask regime. Currently, they maintain a consistant core release, alongside yearly limited releases themed around the agricultural seasons of Scotland.

Distillery manager, John Campbell, will be a recognisable name from his time at Laphroaig, and has been working with Lochlea since distillation started in 2018.
