"This new release is named after the Transportation Ships that the convicts used to endure on their arduous journey to new lands. So many died on these ships due to the poor conditions that they were named “coffin ships”. The picture is of the “coffin ship” national famine memorial in county Mayo.

This whiskey is a marriage of a delicate second fill bourbon cask and first fill port cask which was then finished in a PX Sherry cask.

The flavours of this single pot still whiskey is a pleasure to drink with an amazing fruity nose and big full bodied palate with that wonderful spice from the unmalted barley. Big, oily and creamy it is bursting with red liquorice, stone fruits, dark chocolate and delicate caramel and vanilla undertones. It is sure to delight. This release is limited to just 93 bottles."

Transportation Whiskey is a new distilling entity in Tasmania, operated by John Halton. With a dedication to traditional Irish style Whiskey unlike anything seen so far in Australia, this triple distilled whiskey is composed of a 60% malted barley/30% unmalted barley/10% oats mash bill, just like you would find in Ireland. This whisky is aged in full sized barrels, until the spirit is ready to be vatted, often with a bourbon cask base, and some portions of spirit finished in Fortified, or other specialty casks.

The texture this gives is unlike anything else found in Australia at the moment, and is reminiscent of the classic Midleton style, think Redbreast...  We look forward to seeing more from Transportation in the near future, especially their more collaborative releases!
