A limited release single malt from Paul John, the Mithuna is part of the distillery’s Zodiac series.
An unpeated expression matured in American oak virgin casks and finished in ex-bourbon casks – Mithuna is named after the Indian counterpart of the third zodiac sign Gemini.
A whisky that balances oak tannin with sugars and the weight of Paul John’s spirit exceptionally.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Aromas of liquorice, gentle beeswax with ulmo honey on crisp toast and tender notes of vanilla.
Palate:Â Coffee mocha, orange peel, delicate spice on active tannins with gentle oils and dark cocoa notes.
Finish:Â Long and complex with multi-toned sugars and delicate honey.
The Paul John single malt are the premium arm of John Distilleries, who are responsible for Original Choice Whisky – the world’s sixth largest whisky brand. Holding themselves to the spirit and ideals of single malt Scotch whisky for the Paul John label, they have a uniquely Indian take on the style.
Six-row barley sourced from the foothills of the Himalayas is not the easiest variant to use of highest yielding, but it produces an oily, rich spirit. They use a ball-shape wash still and onion-shaped spirit still which create a full bodied but fruity spirit that is matured either in above or underground warehousing.
