Another welcome return to one of the Australian distilleries from Boutique-y first series. Riverbourne, located 60 km southeast of Canberra, is run by Australia’s oldest distiller, Martin Pye.
This whisky is peated, using heavily peated malt from Bairds and it’s been matured in a 100 litre cask
On the Label…
“It’s Whack-a-Wombat time at Riverbourne, playing on the destruction that the local wombats cause in and around the distillery.
Deadly animal: Common Death Adder It is one of the most venomous land snakes in Australia and globally. Human death can occur within six hours after the bite..”
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: There’s an immediate iodine hit, slightly earthy, and medicinal too, but softens to reveal heather honey, and hints of tangerine creams
Palate: Big, and chewy! With waves of sweet smoke, candied citrus, and creamy vanilla toffees, followed by some earthy peat with a pinch of salt.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company, now 10 years old, have bottled spirits from most distilleries in Scotland and are increasingly expanding to include whiskies, rums, brandies and more from around the world. Their limited edition labels reference interesting elements (or in-jokes) about the distilleries they celebrate. Boutique-y bottle their batches, which can be single cask or a number of casks, at the strength they deem the whisky is most enjoyable at.
