Matured for 18 years, this is indulgent and spicy thanks to the casks selected for maturation.

Taking its character and colour entirely from the casks within which it has been nurtured, this is a deeply warming whisky.  The indulgence extends through this single malt with chocolate and spice defining the character but allowing for the influence of more vibrant zesty flavours.

Old Pulteney has always been a favourite of ours here at the Oak Barrel, and the more recent age statement releases are no exception. That classic, salty flavour profile is everpresent in this release, just the way we like it.

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Intense and warming. Indulgent chocolate and creamy vanilla, with rich honey sweetness tempered by vibrant spices. A whisper of flowery fruitiness yields to crisp bursts of citrus and apple.

Palate: Chocolate-y indulgence layered with honeyed spices and Christmas cake. Floral notes lend a dash of finesse, while zesty hints of citrus and green apple enliven a lovely long finish.

Founded in 1826 in Wick, on the country’s north east coast, Pulteney’s character and story is informed and inspired by its location. A fishing town whose fortunes rise and fall with the ocean, the Pulteney’s flavour and presentation has long been associated with the seaside. For a long time it was the most northerly distillery on the mainland, a title that the reincarnation of Wolfburn in Thurso now holds. It’s still up for debate just how much impact sea air pounding onto a warehouse fill of barrels has, but two things we can be sure of is that Wick is windy and the single malt that comes from Pulteney has a background, but discernible, coastal, salty note.
