“Fresh and floral with minty notes and a constant sweetness. An interesting and characterful rum that kept the panel wanting more.  Mango, herbal, mint leaves, bay leaves. Floral, peppermint, raw Manuka honey”.

Trinidad produces, or has produced some of the rum world's most varied spirit.  Nowadays many focus on, and mourn the loss of Caroni over two decades ago, whilst not fully giving credit to some of the other spirits that come from the other distilleries still operating. This one, to us at least, drinks and tastes like a TDL, and what a TDL it is. Tasting notes say it all, the underlying sweetness comes across in a non-cloying way, balancing out the bright herb & fruit smoothie notes.  Kind of like a really nice, fresh pressed juice or smoothie. Boozy Boost Juice, anyone?

Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, having being founded in 1842 as William Cadenhead Limited Wine & Spirit Merchants. It was family owned until it was bought by another family company J&A Mitchell & Co, owners of the Springbank and Glengyle distilleries. Whyte & Mackay-owned Jura was first built in 1810 on the island that shares its name. A chequered history of closures, dismantles and rebuilds has led to a hugely popular distillery, particularly in the UK. A cult loved distillery, they tend to be reasonably weighty whiskies with gentle smoke. We think it shines brightest currently in the hands of independent bottlers.
