This single malt whisky was distilled in 2009 at the Glendullan distillery in Speyside. It was placed in a two ex Bourbon Hogsheads, #315679 & #315684, and left to mature for 12 years. It was bottled at 46% abv as part of the Signatory Vintage Un-Chillfiltered Collection.
Diageo has 3 distilleries that fall under the Singleton name, the one we are most familiar with in Australia being Dufftown, whilst Glendullan is primarily reserved for the US market. We can’t tell if this release is just exceptional by itself, or whether the grass is greener on the other side of the pond…
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Orange peel and butterscotch candies, touch of freshly toasted oak.
Palate: Orchard fruits, vanilla with toasted coconut.
Finish: Dried fruits, citrus peel and chocolate.
Signatory Vintage are one of the veterans of Independently Bottled Scotch Whisky. Founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask.
They have one of the most well regarded stores of single cask Scotch Whisky in the industry, with a focus on high quality spirit, bottled without the need for Chill Filtration, always at natural colour. Signatory covers the entire range of whisky drinkers, with their high end Cask Strength Single Casks offering complex and rare whiskies at the high end, while their Unchillfiltered Collection provides some of the best value single malts and grains around.
The Glendullan Distillery is one of the largest distilleries in Scotland producing around 4 million litres of spirit yearly. It is owned and operated by Diageo and primarily used for blended whisky in the Diageo portfolio. Released as a single malt as part of Diageo’s Rare Malts to increase the visibility of the distillery. The distillery boasts six large stills which distill unpeated malt and produce a whisky that is primarily for the US markets. Usually bottled as The Singleton of Glendullan.
