This single malt whisky was distilled in 2008 at an Benrinnes distillery in Speyside. It was placed in a two ex Bourbon barrels (800282 & 800283) and left to mature for 12 years. In 2021 it was bottled at 43% abv as part of the Signatory Vintage Copper Tin Collection.
This bottling of Benrinnes is delightful. As one of our favourite lesser seen distilleries, we knew we would like it. With a mouthfeel and flavour profile reminiscent of a vanilla slice in a country town cafe, this bottling is dangerous. Absolutely smashable.
Tasting Notes:
Nose:Â Vanilla thickshake, warm honey on granola, shaved oak and subtle smoke.
Palate:Â Creamy vanilla, salted butter, lemon citrus, nectarine and mint.
Finish:Â Oily, with creamy fudge and white chocolate.
Signatory Vintage are one of the veterans of Independently Bottled Scotch Whisky. Founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask.Â
They have one of the most well regarded stores of single cask Scotch Whisky in the industry, with a focus on high quality spirit, bottled without the need for Chill Filtration, always at natural colour. Signatory covers the entire range of whisky drinkers, with their high end Cask Strength Single Casks offering complex and rare whiskies at the high end, while their Unchillfiltered Collection provides some of the best value single malts and grains around.
Benrinnes was built in 1826 and is largely used to create whisky for blends and it produces a new make spirit that is often described as heavy and meaty, similar to distilleries like Dailuaine and Mortlach which are also owned by Diageo.
