“In 1919, Monsieur Charles Garreau purchased the domaine along with a new still which they still use today. That very still which is now over 100 years old, was used by his grandson and third generation Master Distiller, Charles Garreau, to create this eau de vie from 100% Baco. It was then matured in  French oak casks from Gascony in Chateau Garreau’s underground wet cellar, aptly nicknamed ‘the burrow’.Â
With the assistance of fourth generation owner, Madame Carole Garreau, we were able to select this special offering to celebrate our 10th release. A flavour rich Armagnac, best enjoyed with company or paired with your favourite cigar. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 44.8% abv.” – Deni, The Old Master.
This incredible Armagnac was selected as a celebration of Old Master Spirits’ 10th bottling. As far as value goes, we have never seen anything like it. The XXO title understates the age of the spirit massively, though as a “XO-style” vatting there is a range of vintages going into it.
Garreau is one of our favourite distilleries to see from Old Master, the spirit maintaining a degree of freshness and fragrance even after several decades of time in oak. This release amps that up, becoming one of the most excellent examples of what a proper blended-vintage french brandy should look and taste like. Eat your heart out, Hennessy.
