“An Armagnac house that has roots dating back to the 1600s, Domaine de Papolle has a deep history and has used traditional methods to craft eau-de-vie through several generations.Â
This Bas Armagnac was distilled in 1978 using Baco grape exclusively, and matured for 44 long years under the expert eye of master distiller Bernard Piffard. Mr Piffard has since been joined by his son Frederic, who together as a father-son team continue to manage the estate, care for their vines and produce classic style Armagnac. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 40.3% abv.”
An incredibly deep & rich Armagnac, that wears its age on its sleeve. Cask strength was barely above 40% on this one, making for a rich and demiglace like spirit that lingers on the palate & in the glass for an eternity. One of my personal favourite releases from Old Master Spirits!
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Dark chocolate, caramel fudge, honeycomb and autumn leaves.
Taste: Cherry cola, mixed berries, dark chocolate, peach tea and a touch of complimentary oak.
Finish: Peach tea and Cherry Ripe. Very long finish
