Peat lovers rejoice; the latest batch of Octomores have landed in Australia, earlier than usual – we will be launching the Octomore 15 Series with an evening of Bruichladdich & Octomore on Wed the 13th of November!
Sixteen years ago, one of The Oak Barrel’s favourite distilleries, Bruichladdich, redefined possible levels of peat in a whisky with the release of the Octomore 1.1, which had a staggering and at the time, record breaking 131PPM. It was bottled at cask strength and young, with just 5 years maturation in ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon casks – done in order to further emphasise the peat. Since then 14 series and a myriad of special releases have followed, pushing peat levels even further still, maxxing out with the 8.3’s outlandish PPM of 309.
This years series, the 15 series, features:
15.1 – 108.2PPM Bourbon & Recharred ex-Bourbon
15.2 – 108.2PPM American oak, red wine, and French ex-cognac casks
15.3 – 307.2PPM Bourbon casks and Spanish Oloroso hogsheads.
This makes the 15.3 the second most heavily peated Octomore ever!
Hosting the night will be Bruichladdich Brand Ambassador, Josh Varna. We will also be kicking off the night with the highly anticipated Bruichladdich Black Art 11, served, of course, before the rest of the Octomores.
