“Odyssea’ from Macchion dei Lupi is a skin contact wine made from the white grape Ansonica. Ansonica is a local varietal grown in both Sicily and Tuscany, most well know for its use in Madeira a famous fortified wine, but now is more often seen as a crisp dry white wine. Carlo the winemaker, drive and passion behind Macchion dei Lupi harvests the grapes for the Odyssea in four parts adding to this wonderful character-full wine with part of the harvest picked with extended maturation. The wine is macerated on the skins for one week and then matured for 8 months partly in stainless steel and part in Acacia wooden barrels.
The Odyssea is gorgeously amber in colour with bright acidity on the palate, fine tannins with hints of citrus and stone fruits. There is a beautiful warmth to this wine and the Odyssea offers interesting complexity and length.”
