Following the tradition of the first two releases, Winter Solstice 3 is an exceptional whisky showcasing the gentle use of peated malt for which Launceston Distillery is known. It is a peated bourbon cask whisky, perfect for enjoying by the fire in the depths of winter. This is the ideal season to savour this very special release.
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Gentle wafts of smoke. Wood embers, earthy peat, iodine and toasted oak.
Palate: Bright and warming on the palate, sweet and spicy. Rum notes dominate, with brown sugar, pear and citrus peel.
Finish: Mild smoke and peat persist in a pleasant lingering finish.
The Launceston distillery is located in the historic Hangar 17 at Launceston airport. It’s the oldest surviving aviation building in Tasmania and used as a passenger departure point until the current terminal was built in 1968. The stills and brewing equipment were all manufactured in Hobart, with the heads of both stills having a distinctive reflux ball to produce a smooth, refined spirit. They are clad in Tasmanian oak for heat retention too.
