“The Cannonau fruit comes from 90 year old vines located in the Gullyview vineyard. It is planted on terra rossa soil (red clay over limestone). The site is flat and gets a lot of sun, Grenache loves the warmth but being in Clare it also retains nice acid, which we utilise to make a fresh, modern style of Grenache. This wine was aged in a Slavonian Oak Foudre for 12 months and then stainless steel for 3 months.
It always needs a little longer to settle than all of the other wines and this is a good thing because it builds great structure and mid pallet concentration. It is bright and fragrant on the nose. It has plenty of flavour on the pallet, red juicy fruits, with a slight graphite character mixed in. It is a pretty and delicate but at the same time bold and plush medium bodied red wine.
