Kilkerran’s latest batch release of the Sherry Cask 8 Year Old Cask Strength. This release is very heavy on its cask driven flavours, but it plays well with the spirit driven elements. Plush and round on the palate, this release hides its 57.4% strength incredibly well.
Due to limited allocations, only one bottle is allowed per person.
Nose: Notes of soft peat smoke, leather-bound books and sticky toee pudding are present on the nose.
Palate: The familiar rich and dirty character of our Kilkerran 8 year old sherry series is clear to taste. We also get thick date syrup, blackcurrants, cherries, redcurrants and a maritime coastal taste.
Finish: As the whisky develops, there are notes of ashy medicinal smoke, ginger and chocolate oranges.
Campbeltown’s Glengyle distillery, producer of Kilkerran whisky, has had a tumultous history; over 150 years the distillery has been bought and sold, opened and closed many times. In 2000, however, it once more returned to the family that founded it in 1872, the Mitchell family. Often touted as the sister distillery to Springbank, many whisky lovers have come to appreciate Kilkerran for its own merits; the result being that these days it is as difficult to source as Springbank.
