Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu The Peated is back after a 4-year hiatus! Generally speaking Chichibu uses unpeated Norfolk barley for their whisky, however, once a year, in the final month prior to maintenance season, a peated (50PPM) newmake is produced. The 2022 limited-edition release was matured in Ex-Bourbon American oak for between 5 and 7 years, before producing 11,000 bottles at 53.5% abv.

Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Behind the smoke are nuanced notes of pure citrus oil aromas, custard creams, black tea and vanilla.
Palate: The palate is about balance and integration and although it’s possible to isolate caramel, wood spice, smoke and saline characters, Ichiro Akuto conducts a masterful symphony rather than a series of disparate virtuosos.
Finish: Long and moreish, and positively mouth-watering.

Chichibu was established in 2007 and instantly became one of Japan’s most progressive and innovative distillery. The mashtun is stirred by hand, the washbacks are made out of the notoriously difficult mizunara oak and annual capacity is tiny.
