It’s a brand new label for this first batch of blended malt under the Westport brand name. It can’t be called a ‘teaspooned malt’ on the label due to SWA regulations, but that is what this is. It’s also a vatting of two Sherry butts from October 1997.
‘Teaspooning’ was introduced in the 1980’s by William Grant & Sons. In the trade these teaspooned malts all have names; Burnside, Wardhead, Westport, are all recognised..
Westport is the brand name for teaspooned Glenmorangie. Glenmorangie owned Glen Moray from 1920 and 2008 when the distillery was sold off to French spirits company La Martiniquaise. Westport is often said to be Glenmorangie, teaspooned with Glen Moray.
