As another new addition to the Boutique-y Return to Oz series, a 4 Year Old Single Malt was selected from Corowa, from the town of the same name on the border of NSW and Victoria. This release, a 48.5% ex-Tawny single cask, shows what Corowa does best, being deep, dark, chocolate-y flavours, which interestingly enough, seem to pair incredibly well with the chocolate the distillery is also famous for!
On the Label…
“There’s a lot going on in front of the distillery building on our label – a game of Aussie Rules footie, and the famous $1 dollar cheque being handed over by Dean.
Deadly animal: Australian funnel-web spiders are one of the most medically significant groups of spiders in the world and are regarded by some to be the most deadly, both in terms of clinical cases and venom
toxicity.”
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Toasted granary bread with a rich dark marmalade note. Dark Chilli Chocolate, with some woody spices.
Palate: The rich dark marmalade comes through on the palate, a sweetness balanced by bitter dark chocolate, sour cherries, and oak spices
That Boutique-y Whisky Company, now 10 years old, have bottled spirits from most distilleries in Scotland and are increasingly expanding to include whiskies, rums, brandies and more from around the world. Their limited edition labels reference interesting elements (or in-jokes) about the distilleries they celebrate. Boutique-y bottle their batches, which can be single cask or a number of casks, at the strength they deem the whisky is most enjoyable at.
Located on the NSW side of the Victorian border, Corowa distilling is an extension of the Druce family’s chocolate business in Junee. Having agreed to acquire an old flour mill from the council for the princely sum of $1, major renovations were untaken to turn the site into a functioning distillery and tourist destination. Â
