The port cask matured expression from Overeem, one of Tasmania’s most renowned whisky distilleries.
Founded by Casey Overeem, the distillery releases all their whiskies as single malt expressions at either 43% or 60%.
The current release ex-port cask at 43% is SD-002, which yielded 172 bottles. Each bottle is individually numbered.
The port casks used for this expression are French oak and have been coopered into 100 litre size.
In 2020 ownership of the brand returned to the Overeem family and it is now driven by Casey’s daughter Jane Overeem and husband Mark Sawford. That also coincided with a significant price reduction.
Official tasting notes:
Nose: Intense aromatics, fruit chocolates, caramel, butterscotch, turkish delight, crème brulee, plum pudding rum soaked raisins, hint of cider.
Palate: Creamy texture, sweet and delicately spicy, fruitcake, caramel, liquorice & sweet malt.
Finish: Long. Vanilla bean laced with spiced raisins.
