The 2012 release of Chichibu’s Floor Malted expression, released as part of an archive series from the Japanese distillery.
This bright, cerealy whisky was distilled from floor malted barley exactly to founder Ichiro Akuto’s specifications. It was matured in ex-bourbon and a handful of Chibidaru (quarter cask) barrels.
There were 8,800 bottles released.
Chichibu was established in 2007 and instantly became one of Japan’s most progressive and innovative distillery. The mashtun is stirred by hand, the washbacks are made out of the notoriously difficult mizunara oak and annual capacity is just 60,000 litres.
Led by Ichiro Akuto and team, their output is minimal and bottles are very rarely seen in Australia.
The Oak Barrel has put together a series of the very early releases from the distillery. A very rare chance to acquire some of the distillery’s very early releases outside of the auction environment, we’ve only one of each to sell.
