Description

A historic 2011 release of Chichibu’s very first whisky, released as part of an archive series from the Japanese distillery.

Distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2011, this was the very first of mature (that is, at least three year old) whisky from the cult Japanese distillery.

A hit at Japanese whisky festivals on its launch, very limited allocations were sent around the world in 2012.

Just 7,400 bottles in the outturn, most of which were drunk upon release.

Chichibu was established in 2007 and instantly became one of Japan’s most progressive and innovative distillery. The mashtun is stirred by hand, the washbacks are made out of the notoriously difficult mizunara oak and annual capacity is just 60,000 litres.

Led by Ichiro Akuto and team, their output is minimal and bottles are very rarely seen in Australia.

The Oak Barrel has put together a series of the very early releases from the distillery. A very rare chance to acquire some of the distillery’s very early releases outside of the auction environment, we’ve only one of each to sell.
