The flagship expression from Islay’s Bruichladdich distillery, the Laddie Classic is a sweet, oily and moreish dram.
Bruichladdich, by their own admission and ours, are one of Scotland’s most progressive distilleries. They produce three distinct types of spirit at the distillery, the heavily peated Port Charlotte and Octomore lines as well as this, the unpeated namesake.
Perhaps at odds with the wider perception of Islay malts, the Laddie Classic is a great whisky, Islay or otherwise.
This showcases a sweet matiness with lots of mixed fruits, apples and apricot and peaches. At 50%Â it’s got a lovely texture, with bits of spice and brine to remind you this is a coastal distillery.
