Description

Pot distilled in 2007 at the Clarendon Estate in Jamaica, this rum joins the Kill Devil range of indie bottlings from Hunter Laing. It was treated to 14 years of maturation in a single cask, which eventually released an outturn of 256 cask strength bottles.

Once again we are given a very healthy ABV by Kill Devil, 67.2% being no joke. This rum is an ester-bomb on the nose, with grilled tropical fruits, opening up to chocolate and molasses with a few drops of water and a couple minutes in the glass.

Tasting Notes: A wealth of fruit with grilled banana and pineapple followed by treacly tobacco, and sweet baking spice. Hefty oak rests at the core, with yet more layers of tropical fruit.

Hunter Laing is an independent bottler that was founded in 1949 by Fred Hunter Laing. In it’s near 80 year history it has remained family owned; now into their 3rd generation. Due to the relationships that have been built up over generations, Hunter Laing are one of the few bottlers with longstanding filling contracts with many of Scotland’s finest distilleries. Alongside their cask regime and Glasgow maturation warehouses, this allows allows near-complete control over the maturation of whisky that they bottle.  They have recently constructed the newest distillery on Islay, Ardnahoe. A stunningly beautiful distillery that was designed for the family by industry legend, Jim McEwan. They have also begun to expand into the world of rum bottling with their Kill Devil range.
