Description

Its been a little while, but Bruichladdich and Barrel & Batch have once again partnered to release another incredible single cask. This single cask Bruichladdich, cask number #2195, Warehouse WHS4C, L11. was aged 10 years in a 2nd fill, ex-Jurancon wine cask.

From Barrel & Batch…

“This particular single cask underwent a delightful aging process in a Jurancon 2nd fill cask, originating from the renowned wine-producing region situated in the southwest of France. Recognised for its production of delectable sweet white wines, the Jurançon wine region boasts a remarkable blend of Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng grape varieties. These wines are celebrated for their rich complexity, often revealing hints of honey, apricot, citrus, and tropical fruits. The unique microclimate, characterised by warm, sunny days and cool nights, contributes to the distinctive flavours and the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity found in Jurançon wines.

True to its reputation, this second fill cask beautifully infused its distinct flavours into the robust, delectable new make of Bruichladdich. Resting peacefully for 10 years since its distilling date of 27.06.2012, our whisky was eventually bottled on 11.01.2023 at a satisfying 63.6%. Limited to just 270 bottles, this divine elixir captivated the senses with its Crimson Sunset hue, welcoming an earthy note from the dunnage storage, swiftly followed by the embrace of dark honey-glazed fruits and an irresistible burst of sweetness akin to the sensation of indulging in a starburst candy.

The sweetness, reminiscent of a fortified wine, was delicately derived from the late harvest of the grapes, offering a delightful interplay of orchard fruits and a hint of sweet creaming soda, culminating in the softest whisper of vanilla pods.”

Barrel & Batch is an Australia whisky co-op that sources single cask and rare whiskies from all over the country including Scotland, American and Australia. The limited release whiskies are offered to members of the co-op, but here at The Oak Barrel we’re lucky enough to get our hands on a small number of the odd release.

Bruichladdich, by their own admission and ours, are one of Scotland’s most progressive distilleries. They produce three distinct types of spirit at the distillery, the heavily peated Port Charlotte and Octomore lines as well as this, the unpeated namesake.
