A double distilled single malt whisky from Oregon’s Westward Whiskey brand.
The revamped range landed in Australia late 2018, in 700ml bottles at 45%.
Born out of Oregon brewing culture, this is distilled from Northwest two-row pale malted barley. Every wash is brewed at the House Spirits Distillery in Portland, fermenting at low temperatures for a relatively long period to encourage bright, fruity notes in the wash. Double distilled, their wash pot still is one of the biggest in the country at over 11,000 litres capacity. The spirit still is approximately 2,500 litres.
Aged in new charred American oak, the local climate shows dry summers and wet winters.
Although this is a single malt there are distinct ‘American’ overtones to this expression. The grain, in this case barley, is prominent and the sweet oak gives a herbal, spicy backbone. Very approachable, exceedingly moreish.
