A single cask whisky from Tasmania’s Redlands distillery, bottled by Tasmanian Independent Bottlers.
Originally launched as a paddock-to-bottle distillery, Redlands is now located at the historic Dysart House, in Kempton. They have released a number of official expressions to the Tasmanian market, but there has not been enough volume for the mainland. The few that have made it to the other states in personal luggage have been well received – the distillery’s sweet new make spirit working well with big, sweet wine casks.
This barrel was one of the first earmarked for the Tasmanian Independent Bottlers series and so it is fitting that this is the first released by the label.
Cask TIB RD 001 was an ex-muscat barrel and the resulting whisky is a big, juicy dram in the form quickly becoming the Redlands style.
Tasmanian Independent Bottlers is a new venture, driven by the team behind Heartwood – Australia’s best known indie bottler. Casting their net beyond the home state, TIB will look to bottle accessible single malts and spirits from across Australia. Avoiding the natural cask strength tendencies of Heartwood (which have topped 70% in the past), TIB releases will be offered between 46% and 50% ABV.
Although the TIB label did appear previous for a private bottling, the late 2017 launch is considered the ‘first’ official bottlings for the label.
