The second Fleurieu whisky released by Tasmanian Independent Bottlers, once again drawn from a very tasty ex-sherry cask.
TIB is run by Tim Duckett, he of Heartwood fame, and as well as whiskies from Tasmania, he has been sourcing whisky from mainland distilleries as well.
This is the first release from South Australia’s Fleurieu distillery, a whisky known for its weight and salted caramel characteristic when matured on site. This was shipped to Tassie as new make spirit, however, so showcase a site of the spirit we haven’t seen before.
Drawn from cask FL 0011, this ex-sherry cask was bottled April 2019 at 49.2%
Fleurieu Distillery is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, south of the state’s capital Adelaide. Also the home of the Steam Exchange Brewery, the Goolwa site of GR Andrews & Sons has quietly been distilling whisky in recent years. The distillery first came to the knowledge of the national whisky community in 2017 after their first releases were very well received by locals.
