A single cask brandy distilled from Tasmanian grapes at the famed Sullivans Cove distillery.
Famous for their whisky, Sullivans Cove are also one of the leaders of the emerging modern premium brandy scene in Australia. Their current releases (circa 2019) date back to a period ten years ago, when they collaborated with winemakers in the Huon Valley to distil grapes.
Cask TDB0047 was one of the most lauded casks upon release, having been matured for eight years in an American oak cask which previously held Sullivans Cove whisky.
The cask was filled 7 May 2009 and decanted 17 August 2017.
Bottled at 47.8%, there are just 197 bottles in the release.
Nose: Red berries and plums, dried herbs, sweet vanilla, orange and tobacco along with ginger cookies and cinnamon.
Palate: Lemon curd and chocolate with a huge fig and prune mid palate as well as intense woody spice.
Finish: Citrus peel and burnt sugar, with dark dried fruits and rich oak lingering for the long haul.
Established in 1994 Sullivan’s Cove is one of the oldest ‘modern’ whisky distilleries in Tasmania, and Australia. Under the direction of Patrick Maguire since 1999, It has become arguably the best-known Australian whisky distillery globally having won Worlds Best Whisky and Worlds Bets Single Cask Whisky multiple times.
The distillery celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2019.
