A 20-year-old 1998 single cask from the Springbank distillery, bottled by Antique Lions Of Whisky – a series which is gorgeous is both appearance and flavour.
Distilled 1998 and bottled 2018 following maturating in a sherry cask, there are just 243 bottles worldwide.
Campbeltown’s Springbank is one of Scotland’s most old-fashioned, and most loved, distilleries. One of the few distilleries to retains its own malting floors (from which it malts 100 percent of its needs) the famously hands-on and un-rushed production methods have made this a distillery unlike any other. Two-and-a-half times distilled and mildly peated, Springbanks are known for their complexity and assuredness.
Springbank casks are exceptionally rare in the hands of independent bottlers and the distillery have been known to buy back – and great prices – any casks that have escaped to the wild. So, an independent Springbank is exceptionally rare and valuable these days, the market price for casks virtually as high as any other distillery on the market.
Under the Antique Lions Of Whisky banner, this is a special dram.
A very special release of whisky that created quite a stir when they were first released in Europe in 2017, the ‘Savannah’ series is the third release from Antique Lions Of Whisky. The indie bottler was formed by Jens Drewitz of Germany’s Sansibar alongside Italian whisky merchants Max Righi (Silver Seal) and Diego Sandrin (Whisky Antique).
This release is a homage to the Moon Import bottlings prominent in Europe in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Often beautifully stylised, this homage series has some of the best packaging we’ve ever seen.
The whiskies have been selected to have an ‘old world European’ style, so expect them to be soft, elegant and fruity with fantastic poise.
Having secured and presented the Birds series in 2017 and the Butterfly series in 2018, we are proud to have again secured a small allocation from the Savannah series.
