The limtied release 15-year-old Springbank which has been matured exclusively in rum casks.
Although often a dubious proposition, Springbank's unique spirit often works well with rum casks and this is no different - excellent integration with managed sweetness.
This 15-year-old has been bottled at 51% and there are approximately 9,000 bottles worldwide.
Australian allocations are strictly limited, with The Oak Barrel luckly enough to receive a handful.
Nose: This a sweet tropical dram with coconut, pineapple and banana aromas. The sweetness continues with toasted marshmallows and sticky toffee pudding but is balanced with a hint of peat.
Palate: The sweetness transfers onto the palate. There’s the velvety smooth richness of decadent desserts such as a tropical meringue pavlova, creme brûlée, toffee apple & pecan pie, along with citrus yuzu notes. There’s also an earthy quality from the Springbank dunnage warehouses.
Finish: The earthy quality now comes to the fore and finishes on a gentle dry note.
Springbank is one of Scotland’s most historic distilleries and one of the most sought-after by Scotch enthusiasts. An icon of the Campbeltown region, it is arguably the most hand-made whisky made from a distillery that has survived from the Victorian era. They are one of the last distilleries to have their own maltings – and certainly one of the very few to malt 100 percent of their requirements on site.
The distillery produces three types of malt for whisky. Springbank is two-and-a-bit times distilled and lightly peated, Longrow is double distilled and heavily peated and Hazelburn is triple distilled and unpeated.
