This is chardonnay farmed by Jura star Etienne Theibaud in his famed parcel Lumachelle.
Simon's vineyard sits in a particularly vulnerable area for frost, exacerbated by shifting weather patterns, and has lost a massive percentage of his production since 2016.
His very good friend Etienne offered him a barrel of this precious chardonnay from the 2017 harvest so Simon drove to the Jura and returned it to his winery in Cahors.
The quality is truly brilliant. Charlotte and I tasted this from barrel in 2018 and were blown away - it's very long, and has very concentrated minerality. The soil in Lumachelle is made of marine fossils and there is more than a hint of Chablis in this wine.
I can't say much more than that I recommend this very, very highly.
