Karl Schnabel is one of the greatest farmers and winemakers in Austria. His 5 hectares, all on the famous Sausal Hill in Styria, have been certified biodynamic since 2003 and his wines have been made without additives since 2007.
His wines brim with life and sheer minerality and are some of the highest quality wines I have tasted.
Every year this cuvee provides one of the most pinot noir like expressions of blaufränkisch that I've ever come across. The olfactory perfume is intoxicating and the light maceration captures an extremely appealing array of fruit that I previously didn't even know existed in this variety. Obviously the terroir and farming play the biggest role in the style of fruit though and basically I cant recommend this highly enough.
