A quite remarkable gin from New Zealand, the Scapegrace gin is coloured black thanks to the infusion of flower, plant and berry botanicals.
The gin pours black but turns vibrant hues of purple, pink or blue as you mix with tonic. The exact colour will be determined by the tonic and the ph reaction.
Botanicals used include aronia berry, saffron, pineapple, butterfly pea and sweet potato and the taste is a vibrant, berry-forward.
Certainly a contemporary gin by all standards, Australian allocations have been severely hampered by the popularity in its native country.
