The Mourvèdre is sourced from Yangarra, both organic and Bio-dynamic certified, in Blewitt Springs. The summer of 2020 was the third hot and dry vintage in succession. Small patches of rain during critical moments helped the vines remain vibrant, and the fruit in wonderful condition. The final wine sees around 40% whole bunch.
We’ve been making wine from this fruit for four years now. However, 2020 saw the first release of a red blend (La Petite Vanguard BLEWITT), and the inaugural Vanguardist Mourvèdre. Inspired by many great Mourvèdre wines from throughout the SW of France, it felt like a natural progression to have this wine sit beside the Vanguardist Grenache from just down the road.
French oak puncheons housed the wine for about 14 months post press, before the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Purple flower perfume, and a sort of purple power to the wine too. Medium-bodied, ironstone, nutty and savoury, dried herbs and grilled meat, seaweed and blueberry, fine mass of silty cocoa tannin, and a spicy herb-strewn raspberry finish of excellent length.
