“Second crop from a vineyard planted at 450m in granitic soils. No malo, no added acid. Crushed and pressed to 600 litre Stockinger demi muids, one new.
We know Traviarti as a nebbiolo producer, for sure. I’m also aware that I liked Traviarti’s 2022 Chardonnay quite a lot too, so (very) good chardonnay should not be a surprise. But even so, hang on. This release floored me. It is frankly, absolutely, fundamentally a seriously good chardonnay. It has great line, great texture and most importantly, great personality. It’s taste hay-like, and of wet riverstones, and of lemon curd, and of understated grilled peach. It shows sprays of herbs, flashes of fennel and slips of green olive oil-on-butter. It has plenty going on throughout and yet it’s all about the finish, which is long. Second crop. We have a wine on our hands here but we also have a vineyard. Both are going places. 95+pts.”

“The Black Springs vineyard has really hit its straps over the last couple of years and will no doubt become a revered site in time. Mendoza and 95 clone, crushed and pressed to 600 litre Stockinger demi muids. Sulphured to avoid malo but all natural acid from a cracking vintage in Beechy. Incidentally no wine from 22 or 23 has had any added acid and for those interested Black Springs and home vineyard have been farmed organically.”
