From Boutique-y
“A new ‘secret Speyside’ distillery was yet another of the new builds of the late 19th century, with production starting in 1900. Although production was intermittent, it was kept running until 1983. Our Secret Speyside hails from single refill hogshead
laid down in September 2014. We’re expecting 664 bottles.”
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: A pronounced malt sweetness. Light and fresh orchard fruits; apples and pears, sweet honey and vanilla undertones, and a touch of delicate smokiness.
Palate: Malt-driven, but with refreshing bright citrus and crisp apple notes, creamy vanilla, a touch of cinnamon, and a gentle wisp of smoke brings that complexity. There’s a hint of brine in the finish too.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company, now 10 years old, have bottled spirits from most distilleries in Scotland and are increasingly expanding to include whiskies, rums, brandies and more from around the world. Their limited edition labels reference interesting elements (or in-jokes) about the distilleries they celebrate. Boutique-y bottle their batches, which can be single cask or a number of casks, at the strength they deem the whisky is most enjoyable at.
Benromach is a traditional Speyside distillery owned by a family of whisky-lovers intent on making single malt the right way with true character. A handful of distillers relying entirely on expertise and senses to make the finest handmade whisky; Speyside single malt matured exclusively in first-fill casks, with a subtly smoky character along with their renowned Red Door Gin. Recalling the Speyside tradition of topping up fires with cuts of peat when coal ran low, the Scottish barley is grown locally and malted with a little peat smoke to Benromach’s exact specifications before being ground into grist in their 120 year-old four-roller Boby Mill. They specify a lightly peated barley, giving the whiskies their distinctive Speyside character.
