This single malt whisky was distilled in 2013 at the Bunnahabhain distillery on the Scottish island of Islay. It was matured solely in 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts and in 2024 was bottled at 57.1% alc/vol as part of the Signatory Vintage 100 Proof range. This whisky has no added colouring and is non-chillfiltered.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: There’s a wonderful iodine aroma with hints of tar and earthy peat. Creamy vanilla and tobacco leave are next and combine with dark fruits of prune, dark raisins and dried apricots.
Palate: Fiery at first, bonfire smoke, meaty with a creamy mouthfeel, dark chocolate and sea salt.
Finish: Long with fiery spices, earthy peat and smouldering oak.
Bunnahabhain is one of the nine active whisky distilleries currently on Islay (though this number is sure to change before too long). Based on the island’s northeast coast, Bunnahabhain is a large and imposing distillery which was built during the Victorian era (1881) by William Robertson. Bunnahabhain’s spirit, whilst historically peated, has moved further and further away from this. Today, roughly only 20-25% of the spirit produced at the distillery is heavily peated (set to be reduced again). Low fill levels and massive amounts of copper contact create a light, malleable spirit which has historically been prized by blenders. It is only recently that the true worth of Bunnahabhain as a single malt is being seen, often when matured in sherry casks, which provide a sweet richness and a spicy ginger note to the spirit. Â
Signatory Vintage are one of the veterans of Independently Bottled Scotch Whisky. Founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask.Â
