Description

“This is a new wine from Selvadolce, a red wine from Granaccia (Grenache) grapes. Aris took some cuttings from a centenary vineyard of Cannonau (Grenache) from his friend Alessandro Dettori from Tenute Dettori In Sennori in the north part of Sardinia. He grafted the cutting at Selvadolce and after a few years made the first bottle of Gumbe di Amirai.

The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of about 150-200 meters above sea level with south facing exposure. The vines are bush trained with a planting density of 7000 plants per hectare on soils of limestone and clay. The harvest takes place manually with selection in the vineyard of only of the ripest bunches. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats spontaneously with the use of indigenous yeasts. The wine ages in cement and wood for about 12 months and is then bottled without clarification or filtration with a minimum addition of sulphur.

The Gumbe di Amirai has a deep ruby colour, a very intense nose with notes of dried prunes, chocolate and leather. On the palate full bodied with notes of dried black fruit, cloves and pepper, structural with a rustic tannin on the finish.”
