“Grown on “the estate ‘Bricchi’ located on the border between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme. The vineyards range from 350 up to more than 400 meters asl.” Vines planted in 1970. Eighteen days on skins in wooden vats. “Ageing in 45 hL French Allier oak barrels for a period of 32 months and subsequent ageing in a steel tank for about six months.” It’s not Scarpa’s top wine but it’s described as “the most important wine of the winery”. Notes are getting a bit staccato at this stage. This is dense, powerful and delicious. Black cherry, chicory, dried cranberry. Treated like barolo. Released when it’s ready, which is usually 4-5 years. Dense and frisky at once. Leaf notes like flames, sparked with spice, leaping. Great balance and intensity. Real wine. 93 or higher. 93+pts.”
