Description

One of the most exciting IB sets to come out of Scotland in recent memory… The Elixir Distillers’ Macbeth Series Act 1…

Macbeth’s loyal armourer imagined as a fresh, herbaceous single malt from Ardmore. Maturation in casks previously filled with heavily peated Islay whisky gives an extra layer of smokiness to this characteristically mineral make. Expect pine needles, woody herbs and a lingering note of chocolate mint.

This bottling is one of ten whiskies chosen to portray Macbeth’s Household in this collectable series inspired by the Scottish play. The artwork was created by noted illustrator and national treasure Sir Quentin Blake.

The Household — a porter, doctors, messengers — are ideal for characterful whiskies; The Bloody Sergeant appears very early on, bleeding heavily from the battle… We found a fantastic Blair Athol, matured in wine casks, that tastes like blood; rich, earthy and slightly metallic. For Seyton, Macbeth’s Armourbearer, there is a deliciously conflicted Ardmore, full of smoke and wild honey, as you never really know what side he’s on.” Alexis Burgess

Cask Type: Ex-Laphroaig American and European Oak Barrels

Tasting Notes

Nose: Peppermint, dark chocolate, hops, pine needles, petrol, linoleum, concrete

Palate: Sage, wet rocks, flint and raw wool. A mezcal Margarita, sour beers, bandages and sea salt

Finish: Lingering and mineral. A menthol cigarette, more hops and spruce

Notes by whisky writer Dave Broom

Pale-faced, sleeping on straw,
the smoke wreathes around,
cloaking the body in suspicions of evil.

This is the curse of the
indentured servant,
at the beck and call of the master,
the spirit pulled in opposite directions.
As the reek strengthens,
so the memories of an earlier,
riper life, diminish
