The first limited bottling from Kilchoman for 2024, aside this years Loch Gorm!
Kilchoman are no strangers to Sauternes casks, with this barrel last seeing a core line release in 2018 (although single casks in this cask have been released in Australia since then!). This bottling differs, however, being full maturation in ex-Sauternes, rather than a several month finish. What we are left with is a Kilchoman that absolutely radiates BBQ Pineapple, candied ginger & that classic, savoury peat.
The youngest of the spirit in this batch was distilled in 2018, with some of the stock being much older.
At 50% this drinks perfectly, opening up to become perfumed and elegant with a few drops of water in the glass.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Creamy, buttery notes with ripe fruits, hint of salty sea air and subtle peat smoke
Taste: Butterscotch and floral notes combine with tropical and candied fruits, with integrated peat smoke flowing throughout
Finish: Sweetness continues onto the finish, balanced with clean, lingering smoke and rich texture.
Founded in 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder, set out to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling. Since then, they have become a well renowned distillery.
